Itinerary

Boat in P Town Bike Path at Race Point

Day 1 - Province Town

Province Town continues to be one of the nicest places on the planet. It is crowded, crazy, and crafty. Everyone fits in to this diverse community situated on the tip of Cape Cod. As you approach "P Town" you will see a single tall monument. The climb to the top can be a bit winded, but the view on a clear day is well worth it. A museum at the base has interesting displays and information about the history of the area.

We thought the climb to the top of the monument was strenuous, but the bike path at Race Point was even more challenging. The path winds between the sand dunes and pine forests with a couple intersections that you wish you had a map for. We did take every wrong branch and were bailed out by a ranger. Afterwards we relaxed at Race Point Beach with a picnic lunch.

A museum at Race point Beach shows how the Coast Guard operated for ocean rescues and has information about the many shipwrecks around Cape Cod. The cost is a donation at the door and is accessed via a boardwalk.

Day 2 - Shining Sea Bike Path and Woodshole Aquarium

We drove to Falmouth and parked the car right outside the town center. The Shining Sea Bike Path is relatively easy with only small hills and not a lot of dangerous crossings. We rode to Woodshole and locked the bikes up at the ferry and bus station.

We walked around Woodshole (nice shops and restaurants) and went to the Woodshole Oceanographic institute for Marine Biology aquarium and watched the seal feeding. We left soon after to ride back before dark. Ate dinner at Bobby Byrne's at the Mashpee Commons (intersection of 28 and 151) and it was fabulous!

Day 3 - Washburn Island Kayaking

A day well spent. Kayaks can be rented right at the boatyard and a public launch is available if you have your own. We kayaked around Washburn Island and saw the Ospery nest and lots of wildlife.

Day 4 - National Seashore

The National Seashore has a visitors center and a bird sanctuary. Both are worth the visit to learn more about the area. We parked at the visitors center and rode out to the beach on the Nauset Bike Trail at the National Sea Shore.

We also did the Head of the Meadows bike trail, which you should consider doing while in Provicetown.

We went to First Encounter Beach to watch the sunset. The tide is incredible there. During low tide you can walk out for what seems like forever.

Day 5 - Cape Cod Rail Trail

Ahh, the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Save this one for last or you will not sit down or the rest of the week. Twenty five miles out and then you have to come back. Incredible!
