General Information

Bandelier is one of the neatest parks in New Mexico. Many visitors stop for the day or for half of the day. For half a day, that pretty much covers the two short trails from the visitor's center. For people who want to do a lot of hiking, there are numerous trails including back country hikes. We spent about 3 hours in the main park where we did the Main Loop Trail twice and the Kiva Hike. We then went to the Tsankawi area which is not often visited.

We were able to get an early start because we camped at the park. The setting is mountainous and peaceful. There are many other extended woodland hikes in the park, but we only did the ones mentioned above. By mid-afternoon, we were on our way to Petroglyph National Monument.
