Introduction

We have combined photos and information from several trips in this section, the most recent additions are from a vacation in the fall of 2002.

Places to Stay

We have a short list of places that we stayed along with photos. We don't mean for these to be recommendations on where to stay, but rather a summary of what each place was like. For recommendations, Bartel's B&B was certainly our favorite of places to stay, but we do not think it is still in business after the lack of travel from 9/11.

London

Bartel's B&B (Acton)

When we return to London, this place is our first choice. The hosts were recommended to us by a friend and we were so glad that she did. Our room was charming and the hosts are wonderful. The place is convenient to the underground - located at Acton. It is on the same line as Heathrow.

When we stayed, the owner told us business was bad since 9/11 and they were considering closing. We can not find them on the internet anymore, and are not sure they are still there.

Ealing Street Guest House (South Ealing)

We reserved this place via an internet site to find a place to stay at B&Bs. The site made it easy to see if there was an opening and the it booked it for us. Seemed straight forward. For some reason, during the time that we were in England, Ealing Street Guest House decided to cancel our reservation. We never actually got an email or call about this, so they let us stay anyway, which we appreciated. The house is on the same bus line for Kew Gardens and is a very short bus ride. It is also convenient to many restaurants. It held the essence of a fraternity house from the laundry on the floor of the hallway to the pounding music late at night. Though advertised as family run, we only saw a group of very young guys running the place.

Stonehenge Area

White Hart Inn - Lyneham

After driving all day, we arrived at the Stonehenge area and were grateful to find the White Hart Inn. The Inn was built in 1780 and the mattresses were purchased shortly there afterwards. Everyone there was really nice, but we found the price to be a bit high for us. This place also had a play area with swings and other amusements for children.
