Homestead Trail
The Homestead Trail is just west of the Cavendish Campground entrance at PEI National Park. There are two loops that one can follow. The shorter one is a little over 4 miles and the longer one is about 5.5 miles long. Whichever one you chose, you get to see a beautiful view of the coastline and cross a couple bridges. We found that in the late afternoon or evening, bug spray was very neccessary.
We paid the entry fee for Prince Edward Island National Park for the day and made our way to the Cavendish Campground and followed the signs to find Homestead Trail. A park map from the visitor's center is very helpful. The path is not paved, and is shared with people on a walk, so we used appropriate cautions for these conditions.
This trail is a very pretty trail with a variety of views from narrow dirt paths through the trees, to man made bridges, to trails that overlook the water. We saw quite a few signs of wildlife including little bunnies that hopped out in every direction, and we believe it was to see if they could get us to crash, but they were still very cute. There is also a structure along the way that we believe is the homestead that the trail is named after. In June, the bushes in front of the structure bloom like crazy. This is a trail that we hope to return to the next time we are up in the area. It is simply beautiful.
